RYU once again

it's been a long time since i've drawn. many of you here have heard that from me a lot, but it's the truth, as i am a lazy person.

anyway, my most recent drawing is another one of ryu. and for once, i am SATISFIED with the way he came out.

he's my most faved character in fighting games, and even in character design. so simple, yet so memorable. steely determination is always seen and felt when you look at ryu. of course it also helps when he's drawn by the senior artists of capcom.

as he's a fav of mine, it was heartbreaking that i never was able to do him justice everytime my lead pencil touched paper. every attempt made always fell short of what i was used to seeing everytime i flipped through capcom art books or looked at any drawing of ryu. i've realized it's at those moments i lose all inspiration for drawing and stop...usually for years at a time.

now after looking at some pages of my fan made KoF manga, and of course with SSFIV and KoF13 (please don't suck like 12), something within me ignited.

i always regretted not being able to finish this fan manga. i always looked forward to drawing, what i consider to be THE ULTIMATE showdown, a fight between ryu and terry. but not being able to nail down 'my' ryu was a wall i always had trouble climbing over. i thought i came close with the piece titled "ryu pissed", but looking at it again...it wasn't quite there. drawing that manga style, and in manga panels was just too daunting of a task, cause the way i drew him in 'ryu pissed' would look off in so many angles.

now, i finally found him.

this may not mean much to some of you here that have seen better fan art of ryu. but to me PERSONALLY, it's a breakthrough. i know, it's a bit extreme and dramatic to be saying that, but HE was always my artist block. now i'm confident enough to say that this ryu is THE ryu i've always wanted to draw, without resorting to studying or being inspired by the many drawings of him by the kickass artists of capcom.

thanks for taking the time to read that. it's just that i'm so thrilled and happy that i've found my ryu and i wanted to share that. so now hopefully, as long as i don't hit another road block, i can try once again at finishing this KoF fan manga that'll end with a faceoff between two iconic characters in the fighting game world. why terry? well, terry is also another fav character of mine, so what better way to end that fan manga than with my two favorite fighting game characters right?
